Going Back Prepared

Philadelphia, PA– — As back-to- school costs continue to increase, some of Philadelphia’s neediest families will receive a very welcomed helping hand this season.

The Philadelphia Outreach Development Council (PODC) will host its annual “Back 2 School” event on Saturday, August 26 th from 11AM to 2PM at Families Forward Emergency Shelter (111 N 49th St); providing school supplies to the children of the
Families Forward Community.
PODC, which provides direct support through a variety of donations to those in the West Philadelphia; supplies over 200 book bags and additional school supplies the families residing in the emergency shelter, as well as those who participate in Families Forward’s subsidized housing program and Early Childhood programs.
This year’s event will feature additional donations, as well as free haircuts; and access to a plethora of local free community resources. Children in attendance will enjoy moon bounces, face painting, crafts and games.
“We’re excited to celebrate our ninth annual Back-2- School event, and our third year supporting Families Forward,” said PODC founders Earlie and Rhonda James.
“We always look forward to playing a small role in helping some of Philadelphia’s most deserving students kick their school year off successfully; and help provide a little extra support and relief to needy families in the community.”
Philadelphia Outreach Development Council serves approximately 800 people per year through its programing including an afterschool STEAM+ program, special family game nights for low-income grandparent guardians, and regular donations to food pantries and homeless shelters.
